Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate) is an organic compound, with molecular formula of C6H10O3 and molecular weight of 130.1418. It is a colorless, transparent and easy flowing liquid. Soluble in common organic solvent. Miscible with water. The main uses are as follows:

1. It is mainly used for modifying resins and coatings. Copolymerized with other acrylic monomers, acrylic resin with active hydroxyl group in side chain can be prepared, which can undergo esterification reaction and crosslinking reaction, synthesize insoluble resin and improve adhesion, and can be used as fiber treatment agent. It can react with melamine formaldehyde (or urea formaldehyde) resin, epoxy resin, etc. to produce two-component coatings. It can keep the mirror luster for a long time when it is added to the paint of premium cars. It can also be used as adhesive for synthetic textiles and medical polymer monomer.

2. It is used to produce resins for coatings, automotive topcoats and primers, as well as photopolymer resins, printing boards, inks, gels (contact lenses) and tinning material coatings, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and optical microscopy (LM) embedding reagents, especially for hydration samples of “sensitive antigen sites”. It is white water, sticky, thinner than water, and easier to penetrate than any resin or monomer. It is especially used for working on bones, cartilage and plant tissues that are difficult to penetrate.

3. The plastic industry is used to make acrylic resin containing active hydroxyl groups. The coating industry, epoxy resin, diisocyanate, melamine formaldehyde resin, etc. are used to prepare two-component coatings. The grease industry is used as an additive for lubricating oil washing. The electronic industry is used as a dehydrating agent for electron microscopes. Adhesives used in the textile industry to make fabrics. Used as a chemical reagent in analytical chemistry. In addition, it is also used as a water miscible embedding agent for the synthesis of medical polymer materials, thermosetting coatings and adhesives.
