The synthesis of epoxy acrylate had been patented in the 1950s, but it was not applied to the field of UV curing until the 1970s. Epoxy acrylate is made from commercial epoxy resin and acrylic acid or methacrylate, which is a kind of UV curing oligomer with large consumption in domestic UV curing industry at present; According to the structure type, epoxy acrylate can be divided into bisphenol A epoxy acrylate, phenolic epoxy acrylate, modified epoxy acrylate and epoxidized oil acrylate.

The molecular structure of bisphenol A epoxy acrylate contains aromatic ring and side hydroxyl group, which is favorable for improving adhesion, while the adhesion of aliphatic epoxy acrylate is poor; The aromatic ring structure also endows the resin with high rigidity, tensile strength and thermal stability.

Epoxy acrylate is a widely used UV curable prepolymer. In terms of structure, it can be divided into bisphenol A epoxy acrylate, phenolic epoxy acrylate, epoxidized oil acrylate and modified epoxy acrylate. As a main resin, the cured epoxy acrylate film has good adhesion, chemical resistance and strength, but there are also shortcomings, such as insufficient flexibility and high brittleness of the cured film. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of different fields, the (physical and/or chemical) modification of epoxy acrylate has become one of the research focuses in this field.

The flammability of epoxy acrylate limits its application in microelectronics and other fields. For organic coatings, flame retardancy is also very important. Adding phosphorus compounds can improve the flame retardancy. When the surface layer of the polymer burns, the phosphorus containing compound will expand and the volume will increase, and the interior of the polymer will be free from the continuous burning of the flame, thus improving the flame retardancy.
